International Documentary Festival Amsterdam04 Dec 2006Gor Baghdasaryan's 3-minute-long documentary film "Dinner Time" was nominated in International Documentary Festival Amsterdam (IDFA), which was held in Amsterdam in November 23-December 3, 2006. The film was in "Silver Cub" category for short documentaries. "It's dinner time in the home of an Armenian family. The menu consists of boiled potatoes and bread. Quickly edited close-ups gradually reveal the dire situation the family is in, and in the background, an ominous soundtrack surges. The youngest child attacks the food with striking hunger, while the older children eat less. The parents peal the potatoes for the smallest ones, but hardly eat themselves. There isn't enough to go around. The camera travels by humble furniture, out the door and into the neighborhood. The family's home is situated in one of hundreds of old railway trucks. In three minutes, this penetrating film says everything there is to say about poverty." http://www.idfa.nl |
