EYP Editorial Meeting13 Nov 2007November 8-10, 2007, Manana Youth Educational-Cultural Center hosted a group of young journalists from European Youth Press Member countries: Poland , Hungary and Germany. "Manana" joined EYP in 2006. One of the responsibilities of member-organizations is the hosting of other EYP members when need arises. The group was having its final editorial meeting on the creation of e-magazine titled Orange on Racism. The selection of the meeting venue was not conditioned by the fact that Armenia is an attractive place for racism manifestations but because firstly EYP members always choose new places to meet there for their events, secondly the racism definition applied by the group was far from the classical one and included a lot of subtopics. Three days seem to be a short period for getting an impression from a country but our center had tried to make a schedule to fruitfully plan the extra time the group had apart from the editorial meetings. The young journalists wanted to learn about the situation of media in Armenia as well as obtain information on Nagorno Karabakh-Azerbaijan conflict. The meeting with Tigran Harutyunyan, head of Noyan Tapan Information Analytical Center opened the first day and helped understand many aspects of the Armenian media: how the need to open the Center came about, what were the expectations, how the audience reacted, how were the media independence issues handled in Armenia, what has been changed throughout years and the like. Mr. Levon Melik-Shahnazaryan was so kind to agree to meet with our guests and the members of Manana center. He is the political editor of «De facto» Information-Analytics Agency and a lecturer www.defacto.am . He was also army commander in Nagorno Karabakh war, was the minister of foreign affairs of Nagorno Karabakh Republic through 1992-1993, also the head of Nagorno Karabakh Republic Foreign Relationships Committee through 1992-1995. The young journalist also had meeting with AVC (Armenian Volunteer Corps) volunteers from America, Canada, Syria , Australia. www.avc.am Minorities was one of the subtopics on which the young journalists, photographers and filmmakers contributed materials, but the cooperation between Manana and Orange magazine will continue with more output to follow in the near future. http://www.orangelog.eu/armenia/ ![]() ![]() |
